India and Sri Lanka played out a dramatic draw in the second Test in Colombo after Sri Lanka produced a determined second-innings batting performance. The result allowed India to claim the two-match series 1-0 after winning the opening Test.
India had established a strong position after scoring 503 in their first innings. Sri Lanka were subsequently dismissed for 290, giving India a significant advantage and allowing the visitors to enforce the follow-on.
Sri Lanka, however, refused to surrender. Sonal Dinusha produced a remarkable unbeaten 133 to help the hosts recover from a difficult position. His innings played a major role in ensuring Sri Lanka survived India’s pressure and took the match into a draw.
Sri Lanka eventually reached 429 for nine in their second innings, successfully preventing India from completing a second consecutive victory. The resistance demonstrated the hosts’ determination after they had been put under significant pressure earlier in the match.
Despite missing out on victory in Colombo, India secured the series 1-0. Their first-Test victory had provided the decisive advantage, while the drawn second match ensured Sri Lanka avoided a series whitewash.
The series also produced several individual highlights. Devdutt Padikkal was named Player of the Series after scoring 328 runs, while Sonal Dinusha’s two centuries in the second Test earned him the Player of the Match award.
