Pakistan and India Set for October 10 Clash in Johannesburg
Pakistan, India and defending champions Australia have been placed in the same group for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, setting up several major contests during the Group Stage. The official schedule was announced by the International Cricket Council on October 1, with the tournament set to be played across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Group A features India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A. Group B contains New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. The final two teams will emerge through the qualification process before the Group Stage begins.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on October 8, 2027, with the match scheduled to take place in Tshwane. India, meanwhile, will open their campaign against defending champions Australia in Cape Town on October 7 in a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final.
The biggest Group A fixture for Pakistan will come on October 10, when Pakistan face India at The Wanderers in Johannesburg. The match is one of the headline fixtures of the newly announced World Cup schedule and will bring the two sides together during the Group Stage.
Pakistan will then face Qualifier A on October 15 before taking on Zimbabwe on October 19. India will play Afghanistan on October 14, Qualifier A on October 17 and Zimbabwe on October 24. Australia will also meet Afghanistan and Zimbabwe during the group phase.
The 2027 World Cup will introduce a new structure. The tournament begins with a three-team Super Series in Namibia involving the three lowest-ranked qualifying teams, with the winner moving into the Group Stage. The remaining 12 teams will then be split into two groups of six.
The top three teams from each Group Stage group, along with the better-performing fourth-placed team, will advance to the Super 7 phase. The seven teams will then play a single round robin, with the top four moving into the semifinals. The final is scheduled for November 21 at The Wanderers in Johannesburg.
