Ahmed Bashir delivered an impressive bowling performance as Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) dismissed Pakistan Television (PTV) for 220 on the opening day of their sixth-round clash in the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2026–27 on Monday, October 12.
The four-day first-class match is being played at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. PTV, after electing to bat first, were bowled out in 49.4 overs despite valuable half-centuries from Sharoon Siraj and Taimur Khan.
Ahmed Bashir led the KRL attack with four wickets, while Arshad Iqbal claimed three and Daniyal Ali Khan picked up two. In reply, KRL reached 59/2 in 18 overs at stumps, leaving the side 161 runs behind with eight wickets remaining.
The opening day gave KRL an encouraging start with the ball, although the contest remains finely poised as the teams continue their first-innings battle.
Ahmed Bashir Leads KRL’s Bowling Attack
Ahmed Bashir was the standout performer for KRL, finishing with figures of 4/59 from 16 overs. His spell played a major role in restricting PTV to a total that their batting lineup had threatened to surpass during the middle stages of the innings.
Bashir repeatedly troubled the opposition batters and struck at important moments, preventing PTV from building a substantial total. His performance also received strong support from the other bowlers, ensuring that the visitors could not capitalise fully on their promising contributions.
Arshad Iqbal was another key contributor, taking three wickets for 43 runs in 12.4 overs. Daniyal Ali Khan added two wickets for 44 runs, while Saqib Khan claimed one wicket.
The combined effort helped KRL maintain pressure throughout the innings. Although PTV managed to recover after losing early wickets, the bowling side struck again towards the end to complete the dismissal of the opposition for 220.
The performance underlined the importance of disciplined bowling in first-class cricket, where sustained pressure and timely breakthroughs can determine the direction of a match.
Sharoon Siraj and Taimur Khan Rescue PTV
PTV’s innings received a major boost from Sharoon Siraj and Taimur Khan, who both registered half-centuries to help their side recover from a difficult position.
Sharoon top-scored with 64 from 106 deliveries, striking nine fours during a composed innings. His contribution provided stability at a time when PTV needed a batter to rebuild the innings and resist KRL’s bowling attack.
Taimur Khan contributed 62 off 76 balls, including six fours and three sixes. His innings added momentum to the scoring and helped PTV move beyond the 200-run mark.
The pair were central to PTV’s recovery after the team slipped to 68/4. Their partnership helped the batting side reach 183/5, placing KRL under pressure for a period during the afternoon session.
However, PTV could not maintain that momentum through the closing stages. The loss of wickets after the fifth-wicket partnership prevented the team from converting its recovery into a more competitive first-innings total.
Mohammad Taha also contributed 25, while Muhammad Shahzad scored 18. Despite these efforts, PTV were eventually dismissed for 220 in fewer than 50 overs.
KRL Finish Day One at 59/2
KRL began their reply knowing that a solid start would be essential after restricting PTV to 220. However, the home side also lost two wickets before the close of play.
Raja Hamza Waheed scored 11 before being dismissed by Israr Hussain, while Mohammad Faiq made six before falling to Kashif Ali.
Shahzaib Khan remained unbeaten on 25, while Iftikhar Ahmed was not out on 15. Their presence at the crease ensured that KRL reached 59/2 from 18 overs without losing further wickets before stumps.
KRL still trailed by 161 runs, meaning the opening session of the second day will be important for establishing control over the match.
The unbeaten pair will aim to build a substantial partnership and reduce the deficit before the middle order takes responsibility for the innings. A steady batting performance could allow KRL to challenge PTV’s first-innings total and put the opposition under pressure.
At the same time, PTV will look to make early breakthroughs and prevent KRL from gaining an advantage in the four-day contest.
President’s Trophy Grade-I: Focus Turns to Day Two
The KRL versus PTV fixture is part of the sixth round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2026–27, Pakistan’s domestic first-class competition featuring departmental and institutional teams.
The tournament provides an important platform for domestic players to demonstrate their consistency and compete for recognition through performances with both bat and ball.
Ahmed Bashir’s four-wicket haul has given KRL a strong start to the match, while Sharoon Siraj and Taimur Khan have ensured that PTV remain competitive after their first innings.
With KRL still 161 runs behind and eight wickets in hand, the match remains open. The next stage will depend on whether KRL’s batters can build partnerships or PTV’s bowlers can exploit the early breakthroughs.
