Abdul Qadir’s attacking 66 helped Pakistan U19 fight back against England U19 in the Youth Test at Arundel.
Pakistan U19 produced a determined fightback against England U19 during the four-day Youth Test at Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground. After England posted 333 in their first innings, Pakistan reached 257 for six at the close of the second day, reducing the deficit to 76 runs.
England resumed their innings on 264 for five and managed to add another 69 runs before being bowled out for 333. Bertie Michael was the standout batter for England, producing an impressive 131 from 235 balls with 21 boundaries. Ralphie Albert also made a valuable contribution with 88.
Pakistan’s bowlers worked hard to remove England’s remaining batters. Rizwanullah led the attack with three wickets for 63 runs, while Abdul Subhan, Mohammad Sayyam and Ahmed Hussain also played important roles in breaking England’s lower order.
Pakistan’s response began positively, with Usman Khan and Aliyan Salman adding 56 runs for the opening wicket. Both eventually fell for 28, but Pakistan continued to find contributions throughout the middle order.
Abdul Qadir then provided the innings with its major acceleration. The wicketkeeper-batter struck an attacking 66 from only 54 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes. His aggressive innings allowed Pakistan to maintain momentum despite England taking wickets at regular intervals.
Ahmed Hussain added a useful 35 from 66 balls, while captain Farhan Yousaf contributed 21 from 22 deliveries. Pakistan were later reduced to 218 for six, leaving the visitors in a potentially difficult position.
Hasnain Abbas Dar and Mohammad Sayyam then steadied the innings. Hasnain finished the day unbeaten on 26 from 83 balls, while Sayyam was not out on 11. Their unbeaten 39-run partnership ensured Pakistan reached 257 for six at stumps.
Pakistan therefore remained within striking distance of England’s first-innings total. With four-day cricket allowing considerable time for a turnaround, the next phase of the match remained crucial for both teams.
The performance also highlighted the depth of Pakistan’s young batting group. While Abdul Qadir provided the attacking spark, the contributions from Ahmed Hussain, Farhan Yousaf and the unbeaten Hasnain-Sayyam partnership helped Pakistan stay competitive against a strong England U19 side.
