India Women will face Sri Lanka Women in the Asian Games final on September 22 after both teams secured victories in their respective semi-finals.
India and Sri Lanka are set to battle for the women’s cricket gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after both teams successfully negotiated their semi-final challenges. The final will take place on September 22 at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, with India entering the contest after a dominant victory over Bangladesh and Sri Lanka booking their place with a successful chase against Pakistan.
India produced an impressive performance against Bangladesh in their semi-final, posting 195 for four after choosing to bat first. Shafali Verma led the innings with an unbeaten 100 from only 49 deliveries, providing the major contribution in a high-scoring Indian innings. Smriti Mandhana also made an explosive start, scoring 37 from 19 balls before her dismissal.
India’s bowling attack then completed the job by dismissing Bangladesh for just 81 in 15.4 overs. Nandani Sharma and Deepti Sharma took three wickets apiece as Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships during the chase. India eventually secured a 114-run victory and moved into the gold-medal match.
Sri Lanka had earlier secured their final place with a successful chase against Pakistan. Pakistan posted 177 for four after Shawaal Zulfiqar and Ayesha Zafar combined for a record 115-run partnership for the third wicket. Sri Lanka responded through captain Chamari Athapaththu, who remained unbeaten on 83 from 50 balls, while Hasini Perera added 42 from 26 deliveries.
Athapaththu’s unbeaten innings proved particularly important as Sri Lanka completed the chase with 13 balls remaining. The result put Sri Lanka into the gold-medal match and left Pakistan to face Bangladesh in the bronze-medal contest on the same day as the final.
The India-Sri Lanka final will bring together two teams that have already shown strong batting performances during the tournament. India will have several players in form, including Shafali and Mandhana, while Sri Lanka will rely heavily on Athapaththu and their ability to handle India’s bowling attack. With the gold medal at stake, the September 22 contest will decide the first-place team in women’s cricket at the Asian Games.
