Smriti Mandhana has overtaken Suzie Bates to become the highest run-scorer in Women’s T20I cricket.
India opener Smriti Mandhana has added another major record to her international career after becoming the all-time leading run-scorer in Women’s T20I cricket. She achieved the milestone during India’s Asian Games semi-final against Bangladesh on September 20, surpassing New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates at the top of the run charts.
Mandhana entered the match needing only a handful of runs to overtake Bates, who had previously held the record with 4,758 T20I runs. She reached the landmark during India’s explosive powerplay, hitting consecutive boundaries before eventually being dismissed for 37 from 19 deliveries.
The milestone took Mandhana’s T20I tally to 4,788 runs. According to the latest ICC figures, Bates is second on 4,758, while India’s Harmanpreet Kaur and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu are also among the leading run-scorers in the format.
Mandhana’s record is another addition to an already significant 2026 campaign. Earlier in the Women’s Asia Cup, she scored 124 from 64 balls against Hong Kong, China, becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket across all formats after moving past former India captain Mithali Raj.
The Hong Kong innings also produced another major landmark for Mandhana. Her century was her 18th international hundred, moving her past former Australia captain Meg Lanning for the most international centuries in women’s cricket at that point.
Mandhana’s latest T20I record highlights her long-term consistency in the shortest international format. Since making her India debut in 2013, she has established herself as one of India’s principal opening batters, and her latest milestone gives her another place in the record books as India prepare for the Asian Games final against Sri Lanka.
