India Women have won the Asian Games 2026 cricket gold medal after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the women’s T20 final at Korogi Sports Park. The victory gave India their second gold medal in women’s cricket at the Asian Games after their triumph in the previous edition.
India were asked to bat first and produced a huge total of 216 for three from their 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the innings with an outstanding 79 from 45 deliveries, while Shafali Verma contributed 48. Richa Ghosh then provided a powerful finish with an unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls.
Mandhana and Shafali gave India a flying start, combining for a 99-run opening partnership. Their aggressive approach immediately placed pressure on the Sri Lankan bowling attack and allowed India to maintain a high scoring rate throughout the innings.
Sri Lanka’s chase never developed after they began losing wickets at regular intervals. Captain Chamari Athapaththu made 29 from 21 balls, but the rest of the batting order struggled against India’s bowling attack. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 69 runs, leaving India with a massive 147-run victory.
India’s spinners played a major role in the second innings. Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets, while Shafali Verma, Shree Charani and Shreyanka Patil contributed two wickets each. The consistent pressure from India’s bowlers prevented Sri Lanka from establishing partnerships and brought the final to an early conclusion.
The victory also produced another milestone for Mandhana. Her 79-run innings helped her become the first woman to reach 11,000 international runs, adding another major record to her career. Her performance was central to India’s commanding total and ultimately their gold-medal victory.
India’s gold medal was also the country’s first gold medal of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Pakistan won the bronze medal after defeating Bangladesh by 31 runs in the third-place playoff, completing the women’s cricket medal positions.
