Brydon Carse has been omitted from England’s squad for the third Test as the hosts look to complete a 3-0 series sweep against Pakistan.
England have left fast bowler Brydon Carse out of their squad for the third and final Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, with the hosts already holding an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the 15-member squad ahead of the match, which begins on September 9.
Carse has already missed the second Test at Lord’s after being arrested following an incident outside a nightclub in Derby. He remains under investigation by Derbyshire Police, according to reports. His continued absence means he will not feature in the final Test of the series.
England have retained left-arm seamer Sonny Baker in the squad. Baker was initially brought into the group as Carse’s replacement and remains with the team after England produced dominant performances in the opening two matches.
England won the first Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs before completing another emphatic victory at Lord’s. The second Test ended with England winning by 194 runs, leaving Pakistan with no chance of winning the series and England firmly in control.
Captain Joe Root will lead the side into the final Test as England attempt to complete a clean sweep. The squad also includes Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith and Josh Tongue, giving England several options across their batting and bowling departments.
For Pakistan, the third Test represents an opportunity to avoid a series whitewash after a difficult campaign. The visitors have struggled against England’s pace attack and have also been unable to produce sufficiently long batting partnerships during the first two matches.
The absence of Carse could alter England’s bowling combination, but their recent performances have demonstrated considerable depth. With the series already secured, England will enter Edgbaston with confidence and the opportunity to finish the campaign with another commanding performance.
