Pakistan women were fined five percent of their match fees after falling one over short during their Women’s Asia Cup semi-final against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan women have been fined by the International Cricket Council for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 semi-final against Sri Lanka in Dubai. The Pakistan team was found to be one over short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into consideration.
The ICC imposed a five percent fine on each Pakistan player’s match fee under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The charge was accepted by Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, meaning a formal hearing was not required.
The sanction was imposed by ICC International Panel of Match Referees member GS Lakshmi. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.
The penalty came after a dramatic semi-final against Sri Lanka. Pakistan batted first and posted 130 for five, with captain Fatima Sana producing an important unbeaten 47 from 36 balls. Her late hitting helped Pakistan set Sri Lanka a competitive target of 131.
Sri Lanka, however, managed to chase down the target with eight balls remaining. Pakistan fought hard with the ball, and Fatima Sana claimed four wickets, but Sri Lanka eventually completed a four-wicket victory to book their place in the final against India.
For Pakistan, the slow-over penalty adds another disappointing note to a campaign that ended just short of the final. The team had shown competitive performances during the tournament but could not prevent Sri Lanka from completing the chase in the semi-final.
Over-rate penalties have become an important part of international cricket as the ICC continues to enforce strict requirements around match duration. Teams are expected to maintain the required number of overs within the allotted playing time, with fines imposed when they fall short.
Pakistan will now look to learn from both the match and the disciplinary sanction. Improving over-rate management will be important for the team in future international competitions, particularly in close matches where even a small delay can result in penalties.
