India Women make a dominant start to their Asia Cup campaign by defeating Thailand by 94 runs in Dubai.
India Women opened their Women’s Asia Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding 94-run victory over Thailand in Dubai. The result gave India an impressive start to the tournament and an early boost in the group stage.
India batted first and posted 159 for nine from their 20 overs. Shafali Verma played a key role in the innings, scoring an unbeaten 64 from 36 deliveries with eight fours and three sixes.
India’s lower order also contributed valuable runs as the team reached a competitive total. Thailand’s bowlers created some pressure, but India were able to maintain their scoring rate and set a challenging target.
Thailand struggled badly during the chase and were bowled out for just 65. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored with 41, but the rest of the batting lineup could not provide enough support.
Deepti Sharma and Nandini Sharma were India’s standout bowlers, taking three wickets each. Deepti also reached a major milestone by becoming the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20 internationals.
The 94-run victory gives India valuable momentum at the beginning of their Asia Cup campaign. With several major matches still ahead, the team will now look to build on the convincing opening performance.
