India Set for Historic First-Ever T20I Against Japan This Month

India and Japan are set to meet in a historic men’s T20I on September 22 as part of the newly announced Suzuki Cup.

Bangladesh have announced their 15-member men’s squad for the cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Litton Das has been named captain, while experienced batter Najmul Hossain Shanto returns to the T20I setup after a lengthy absence from Bangladesh’s shortest-format plans.

The squad combines established international players with several cricketers who will be looking to strengthen their positions in Bangladesh’s white-ball setup. Litton will lead the side, while Towhid Hridoy has been named among the key players in the squad.

Shanto’s inclusion is one of the biggest talking points. The left-handed batter returns to the T20I group after previously being away from Bangladesh’s plans in the format. His experience at international level could provide additional stability to the top order.

Bangladesh have also selected experienced bowlers including Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud. Rishad Hossain and Shak Mahedi Hasan provide further options in the spin and all-round departments.

The squad also contains younger batting options such as Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon and Saif Hasan. This combination gives Bangladesh a mixture of experience and emerging talent as they target another strong Asian Games campaign.

Bangladesh won the bronze medal at the previous edition of the Asian Games and will be looking to improve on that result in Japan. India won gold in the previous tournament, while Sri Lanka took silver. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan all secured automatic qualification for the 2026 competition alongside hosts Japan.

The men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 3. Bangladesh will therefore have a major opportunity to challenge some of Asia’s strongest cricket nations in the T20 format.

With Litton Das leading and Shanto returning, Bangladesh have selected a squad that combines international experience with players capable of making an impact in T20 cricket. The team will now turn its attention to preparations for the tournament in Japan.
