Pakistan-backed candidates secure key ACC positions as Afghanistan becomes eligible for the presidency rotation.
Pakistan strengthened its influence within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) after Pakistan-backed candidates secured all three available director positions during the body’s recent Annual General Meeting in Bangkok.
The ACC meeting also brought an important change to the council’s leadership structure. Afghanistan Cricket Board has been added to the group of full-member boards eligible to hold the rotating ACC presidency in the future. Previously, the presidency rotated among India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The development represents a significant step for Afghanistan cricket as the country continues to strengthen its position within Asian cricket administration. The inclusion allows Afghanistan to potentially lead the continental body under the revised rotation policy.
Pakistan also performed strongly in the executive elections. Representatives backed by Pakistan secured the available director positions, giving the country an important voice in the ACC’s decision-making structure for the 2026-2028 term.
The meeting also saw UAE’s Khalid Al Zarooni elected unanimously as ACC vice-president. Several representatives from non-Test-playing and Associate Member nations were also elected to the Executive Board.
The latest governance changes could have a long-term impact on Asian cricket administration. With Afghanistan now eligible for the presidency rotation and Pakistan maintaining strong representation, the ACC enters a new phase of broader regional participation.
