Usman Khan and Farhan Yousaf smashed centuries before Mohammad Sayyam’s four-wicket haul helped Pakistan U19 dominate England U19 in the opening Youth ODI.
Pakistan U19 began their four-match Youth ODI series against England U19 in outstanding fashion, securing a commanding 177-run victory at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground. Centuries from Usman Khan and captain Farhan Yousaf provided the foundation for Pakistan’s huge total before the bowlers completed an emphatic win.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Pakistan lost two early wickets and were reduced to 41 for two. The situation changed dramatically when Usman and Farhan came together at the crease. The pair produced a magnificent 268-run partnership for the third wicket, completely shifting the momentum of the innings.
Usman was the dominant scorer, producing a superb 151 from 136 balls. His innings contained 15 fours and four sixes and combined controlled strokeplay with aggressive attacking cricket. His century provided Pakistan with the platform required to build a huge total.
Captain Farhan Yousaf was equally impressive. He scored 115 from 133 deliveries, striking 12 fours and a six. His partnership with Usman not only rescued Pakistan from their early difficulties but also placed England under enormous pressure before the second innings even began.
Pakistan eventually posted 332 for nine from their 50 overs. The total gave England U19 a difficult target of 333 and required the hosts to maintain a demanding scoring rate for the majority of their chase.
Pakistan’s bowling attack then produced another excellent performance. Mohammad Sayyam was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets and repeatedly breaking important partnerships. The pressure created by the bowlers prevented England from developing the sustained partnerships necessary to mount a serious challenge.
England U19 were eventually bowled out for 155, leaving Pakistan with a huge 177-run victory. The margin of victory demonstrated how comprehensively Pakistan controlled the contest after recovering from their early batting setbacks.
The victory also gave Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The second Youth ODI is scheduled for September 12 in Guildford, giving England an immediate opportunity to respond.
For Pakistan U19, the opening match offered plenty of positives. Usman’s 151, Farhan’s 115 and Sayyam’s four-wicket haul showed strength across all three departments. If the young Pakistan side can maintain the same consistency, they will have a strong opportunity to build on their early series advantage.
