Jamaica Kingsmen reached the CPL final after a five-wicket victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors in a dramatic Qualifier 2.
The Caribbean Premier League 2026 playoffs produced another dramatic contest as Jamaica Kingsmen defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by five wickets in Qualifier 2 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The result sent the Jamaica Kingsmen into the CPL final during their debut season, while Guyana’s campaign came to an end despite their strong run during the league stage.
Guyana Amazon Warriors posted 206 for four after being asked to bat first. Shimron Hetmyer was the main architect of the huge total, producing a remarkable unbeaten 102 from just 45 balls. His innings included eight sixes and gave Guyana a strong platform in a high-pressure knockout match.
The Warriors appeared to have put themselves in a commanding position, but Jamaica produced an aggressive response. Maaz Sadaqat made 41 from only 17 deliveries during the early stages of the chase, while Keacy Carty added a valuable half-century to keep the required run rate under control.
Guyana managed to create some late pressure by removing several important batters, including Carty, Saim Ayub and Andre Russell. However, Rovman Powell remained at the crease and delivered a decisive finish. Powell smashed an unbeaten 40 from 17 balls, including four sixes, to guide the Kingsmen across the line with two balls remaining.
The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for Jamaica in their first CPL season. The Kingsmen had to navigate a difficult campaign before making their push during the knockout stage. Their successful chase against Guyana followed another strong playoff performance and secured their place in the tournament final.
For Guyana, the defeat was particularly difficult because the Amazon Warriors had enjoyed a strong league campaign and entered the playoffs with significant momentum. Their loss meant that they missed out on another appearance in the CPL final despite Hetmyer’s outstanding century.
The Jamaica Kingsmen subsequently advanced to face the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in the 2026 CPL final. The playoff contest against Guyana will remain one of the standout matches of the tournament because of the contrasting performances of Hetmyer’s extraordinary century and Powell’s match-winning finish.
