India Under-19 defeated Australia Under-19 by seven runs in a rain-shortened Youth ODI in Rajkot.
India Under-19 began their Youth ODI series against Australia Under-19 with a thrilling seven-run victory in a rain-affected contest at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. The match was reduced to 20 overs per side because of rain, creating a shortened contest that remained competitive until the final over.
After being sent in to bat, India scored 182 for six from their 20 overs. Yashbardhan Chauhan played a major role with the bat, scoring 54 from 34 deliveries with five fours and two sixes. His innings provided India with a strong platform before Anvay Dravid produced an aggressive late contribution.
Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, scored 38 from just 18 balls to give India’s total a late boost. His aggressive batting helped India reach a challenging score despite the shortened format. The match also attracted attention because Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, made his India U19 debut.
Aaryavir Sehwag made a positive start to his youth international career, scoring 28 from 26 balls with five boundaries. His appearance alongside Anvay Dravid created considerable interest, with the two young players representing the next generation of Indian cricket families.
Australia’s response began positively, with their batters putting pressure on the Indian bowling attack. Neel Patel scored 45 from 31 balls and Hayden Barbulovic contributed 40 from 24 deliveries. Australia captain Jack Czosnek then added a quick 55 from 27 balls to keep the chase alive.
Despite the strong chase, Australia finished on 175 for seven after their 20 overs, leaving India seven runs ahead. The result gave India an early advantage in the Youth ODI series and highlighted the importance of handling pressure in a shortened game.
The series now continues with more opportunities for both groups of young players to gain international experience. With several promising performances already recorded in the opening match, the remaining games are expected to provide further insight into the next generation of Indian and Australian cricket talent.
