Fast Bowler Faces Disciplinary Hearing Following August Incident
England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been formally charged by the Cricket Regulator over an alleged breach of professional conduct regulations following an incident outside a nightclub in Derby in August. The charge comes under Regulation 3.2 of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s professional conduct regulations.
The incident occurred on August 22 following Durham’s County Championship match against Derbyshire. Carse was briefly arrested and was filmed in handcuffs outside a nightclub. Police subsequently dropped the allegations connected to an alleged assault, and no formal criminal charges were brought against him in relation to the incident.
The cricket disciplinary process is separate from the police investigation. The Cricket Regulator has now brought its own charge, alleging that Carse’s conduct breached the professional standards expected under the ECB regulations.
Carse was subsequently left out of England’s squad during the Pakistan series and has not represented the national team since the incident. He has, however, continued playing county cricket for Durham while the disciplinary matter remains unresolved.
The case will now be considered by an independent Cricket Discipline Panel. Possible outcomes under the disciplinary process can include a warning, fine or suspension, depending on the findings and circumstances of the case. No final decision has yet been announced.
The 31-year-old remains under an ECB central contract, and England’s selection decisions will depend on the outcome of the disciplinary process and the team’s future plans. The ECB has indicated that it will not provide further substantive comment while the matter is ongoing.
