India-Pakistan World Cup Clash Set for October 10 in Johannesburg

The Wanderers to Host Major Group-Stage Encounter

India and Pakistan will meet in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on October 10, with The Wanderers in Johannesburg confirmed as the venue for the Group Stage encounter. The fixture was officially announced as part of the ICC’s complete World Cup schedule on October 1.

The two teams have been placed in Group A, alongside Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A. Their Johannesburg match will therefore form part of the opening Group Stage before the competition moves into the Super 7 phase.

India will enter the World Cup campaign on October 7 against defending champions Australia at Newlands in Cape Town. Pakistan’s first match is scheduled for October 8 against Afghanistan in Tshwane, meaning both teams will have played one Group Stage fixture before meeting in Johannesburg.

The India-Pakistan fixture is scheduled for the Wanderers Stadium, one of South Africa’s established international venues. The stadium will also host the 2027 World Cup final on November 21.

The match is part of a 57-game World Cup schedule involving 14 teams. The Group Stage will contain two groups of six after the preliminary Super Series determines the final Group Stage participant.

Following the Group Stage, the top three teams from each group and the better fourth-placed side will qualify for the Super 7. The seven teams will then play six matches each before the top four advance to the semifinals.

Pakistan’s remaining Group A schedule includes matches against Qualifier A on October 15 and Zimbabwe on October 19. India will face Afghanistan on October 14, Qualifier A on October 17 and Zimbabwe on October 24.

The October 10 fixture will therefore be one of the early headline matches of the 2027 World Cup. With both sides scheduled to play at The Wanderers during the Group Stage, the fixture is already among the most prominent matches on the tournament calendar.
