Ishan Kishan Smashes Historic 270 as East Zone Post 708

Ishan Kishan’s marathon double century puts East Zone in a commanding position against South Zone in the Duleep Trophy final.

Ishan Kishan produced one of the most remarkable innings of the 2026 Duleep Trophy as the East Zone captain smashed a magnificent 270 against South Zone in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. His monumental innings helped East Zone pile up a huge 708 in their first innings and establish a dominant position in the contest.

Kishan’s innings was a combination of patience, power and relentless scoring. The wicketkeeper-batter faced 334 deliveries and struck 30 fours and seven sixes on his way to 270. His innings eventually ended before he could reach the historic milestone of a first-class triple century, but by then he had already done enormous damage to South Zone’s bowling attack.

The performance also placed Kishan in an elite group of batters in Duleep Trophy history. He became the seventh batter to score a double century in a Duleep Trophy final and the first East Zone captain and wicketkeeper to achieve the feat. His innings was particularly significant given the pressure and importance of a final at the start of the domestic red-ball season.

Kumar Kushagra also played an important role for East Zone, scoring 101 to provide valuable support during the enormous first-innings total. Abhimanyu Easwaran contributed 72, while Shikhar Mohan added 85 as East Zone continued to pile pressure on South Zone’s bowlers.

By the time East Zone were finally dismissed for 708 after 163 overs, the scoreboard reflected their complete dominance with the bat. It was only the third time that a team had crossed 700 in a Duleep Trophy final, underlining just how extraordinary the batting performance was.

South Zone were immediately placed under pressure when their reply began. With more than 700 runs on the scoreboard, their primary task was to survive the enormous challenge and build a first-innings total capable of keeping them within touching distance of East Zone.

The match also represents an important moment for Kishan personally. After spending significant time working his way back into India’s plans, his huge red-ball performance demonstrates his ability to dominate in the longer format. The innings is likely to attract further attention as India continue to monitor domestic performances ahead of future international assignments.
