Mohammad Rizwan approached the Lahore High Court over an NCCIA summons, questioning the basis and jurisdiction of the ongoing inquiry.
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has approached the Lahore High Court against a summons issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Rizwan has questioned the legality of the notice and sought relief against the agency’s proceedings, according to reports.
The development comes after Rizwan was questioned by the NCCIA in Lahore earlier this month. He and Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq were summoned as part of an investigation that has included examination of their mobile phones and inquiries related to alleged dressing-room information leaks and financial transactions.
Rizwan subsequently submitted a written response through his representatives. According to sources cited by Geo News, he sought clarification over why he had been called by the agency, why his mobile phone had not been returned and what disciplinary violation he was alleged to have committed.
The investigation emerged following Pakistan’s troubled Test tour of England. Rizwan and Imam were among seven players sent back to Pakistan during the tour after England established a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The PCB had also launched its own internal disciplinary process.
The NCCIA’s inquiry has reportedly included forensic examination of the players’ mobile phones. Investigators have reviewed messages, contacts and other digital information, while sources have also reported that financial activity and suspected transactions were being examined.
Importantly, the investigation has not established wrongdoing by Rizwan or Imam. A report on the initial forensic examination said no significant material had been found on the players’ phones, although further analysis was continuing at the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad.
The legal challenge now adds another stage to the matter. Rizwan’s petition raises questions about the agency’s authority and the process through which the summons were issued. The court proceedings will determine how the legal challenge develops.
The case remains separate from the cricketing issues surrounding Pakistan’s England tour. Until official findings are released by the relevant authorities, allegations connected with the investigation should not be treated as proven violations.
