The Pakistan Cricket Board is awaiting the report of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency as it continues to examine matters involving Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. According to sources, the PCB will decide its next course of action after receiving the NCCIA’s findings.
The investigation began after the two players were sent back from England during Pakistan’s difficult Test tour. Both Rizwan and Imam subsequently appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore and were questioned as part of an inquiry involving alleged dressing-room information leaks and other digital and financial matters.
The agency has carried out forensic and technical examinations of the players’ mobile phones. Investigators have reportedly reviewed messages, contacts and other digital information, while information circulating on social media about alleged dressing-room leaks has also been considered as part of the inquiry.
Financial matters have also reportedly been examined. Sources have said investigators are reviewing relevant financial activity, including transactions and bank-account information from periods before and after Pakistan’s Test series against England. Any suspicious transaction, if identified, would be subject to further examination.
However, the initial examination of the players’ phones reportedly did not reveal anything significant. Further forensic work was continuing at the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad, meaning the investigation had not reached a final conclusion when the latest reports were published.
The PCB’s position is therefore expected to depend on the final findings. Sources cited by Geo News reported that the NCCIA would send its report to the cricket board, after which officials would determine what action, if any, should be taken concerning the two players.
The situation follows a period of major disruption in Pakistan cricket. During the England Test series, the PCB made substantial changes to the squad and coaching staff after Pakistan lost the first two Tests. The disciplinary investigations have added another layer to the fallout from the tour.
For now, neither Rizwan nor Imam has been formally found guilty of the reported allegations. The investigation remains ongoing, and the final NCCIA report will be important in determining whether the PCB takes further disciplinary action or closes the matter.
