PTV Batter Reaches Historic Hundred in Just 49 Balls
Muhammad Shahzad has created history in Pakistan domestic cricket by smashing the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter. Representing Pakistan Television (PTV) in the President’s Trophy Grade-I, Shahzad reached his hundred in just 49 balls against Kingsmen Academy during the third round of the tournament.
Shahzad’s remarkable innings came at the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad after PTV found itself in early trouble. The batter walked in with his team struggling at 34 for 3, but instead of allowing the pressure to build, he launched an aggressive counterattack and completely changed the momentum of the innings.
The right-hander eventually finished with an extraordinary 114 runs from only 62 deliveries. His innings included 12 fours and eight sixes, underlining the attacking nature of his record-breaking performance. His century was the sixth of his first-class career.
The 49-ball hundred surpassed the previous Pakistan record held by former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who had reached a first-class century from 56 balls against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2014. Shahzad therefore took five deliveries off the previous national record and established a new benchmark for Pakistani batters in first-class cricket.
Shahzad also received support from Muhammad Taha, who contributed 43 runs from 72 balls and helped form a 143-run partnership with him. The partnership was particularly important because PTV had been under pressure after losing three early wickets. Shahzad’s attacking approach allowed the innings to recover rapidly and put the batting side in a much stronger position.
His 49-ball century is also reported as the eighth-fastest first-class hundred in cricket history, adding international significance to an already remarkable domestic performance. The innings will be remembered as one of the standout batting displays of the President’s Trophy and gives Shahzad a major individual milestone early in the tournament.
