Farhan Takes Charge of Young Pakistan Squad in Japan
Sahibzada Farhan is leading Pakistan’s men’s cricket team at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, where the national side is competing in the T20 cricket competition. The Pakistan Cricket Board selected Farhan as captain when it announced the 15-member squad for the tournament in June.
The experienced top-order batter has been given responsibility for guiding a young Pakistan side that includes several players with limited international experience. Four members of the original squad — Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Maaz Sadaqat and Saad Masood — had yet to represent Pakistan at T20I level when the squad was announced.
Farhan has considerable experience in the shortest format. According to the PCB, he has played 46 T20Is for Pakistan and scored 1,305 runs, including two centuries and 10 half-centuries. His experience is expected to be particularly valuable as he leads a squad containing several players seeking to establish themselves in international cricket.
The captain also enters the Asian Games after an outstanding 2026 T20 World Cup campaign. ICC noted that Farhan scored 383 runs during that tournament, the highest aggregate by any player in a single edition of the men’s T20 World Cup. His performances have made him one of the key batting figures in Pakistan’s current T20 setup.
Pakistan’s squad includes Farhan alongside Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Akif Javed, Ali Raza, Arafat Minhas, Haider Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat, Saad Masood, Saim Ayub, Sufyan Moqim and Usman Khan, with Mohammad Wasim Jnr later replacing injured Mohammad Salman Mirza.
With Pakistan’s men’s cricket competition underway from September 24, Farhan’s leadership will be an important part of the team’s campaign. The tournament provides the young squad with an opportunity to gain international experience while representing Pakistan on the Asian Games stage. The men’s medal matches are scheduled for October 3.
