Harpreet Singh Bhatia to Lead UAE in Dallas
The United Arab Emirates have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series in the United States. The UAE squad will travel to Dallas for a series involving the hosts USA and Namibia as the teams continue their campaigns in the World Cup qualification pathway.
UAE will be led by batter Harpreet Singh Bhatia, who has been named captain for the series. The squad includes a mixture of experienced players and emerging talent, with the UAE looking to collect valuable League 2 points during their matches in Texas.
Two young players have received their first senior call-ups. Ayaan Misbah, a 17-year-old top-order batter who has represented the UAE Under-19 side, and left-arm spinner Awais Ali Shah have both been included in the squad for the first time at senior level.
The squad also contains established UAE players including Aayan Afzal Khan, Basil Hameed, Rahul Chopra, Sohaib Khan and Tanish Suri. The team will be coached by Lalchand Rajput, with Stanley Chioza serving as fielding coach.
The UAE will begin their campaign against Namibia on October 3 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. They will then face hosts USA on October 5 before meeting Namibia again on October 9. Their final scheduled match will be against the USA on October 11.
All four of the UAE’s matches are scheduled for the same venue, with each game beginning at 10:00am local time. The tri-series will give the participating teams another opportunity to accumulate points in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 competition.
For the UAE, the series is also an opportunity to test their younger players at senior international level. With the World Cup qualification pathway continuing, every League 2 fixture carries importance as teams work towards their broader ODI goals.
